Giridih, Jharkhand, India: The initiative to preserve centuries-old Adivasi medicinal knowledge, traditional healing practices and forest biodiversity has received prominent coverage in Prabhat Khabar, one of Jharkhand’s leading Hindi newspapers, on 9 October 2026.

The report highlighted the Hodopathy conservation initiative led by environmentalist and agripreneur Rajeev Singh, focusing on safeguarding indigenous wisdom, conserving medicinal plants and protecting the forests closely associated with Jharkhand’s traditional knowledge systems.

The newspaper covered the inauguration of three dedicated digital platforms — Hodopathy.org, Hodopathy.in and Hodopathy.com — in Giridih. These websites aim to document the experiences of Adivasi elders, traditional healers and community knowledge holders, ensuring that valuable knowledge passed down through generations is preserved for the future.

The initiative also incorporates Hodopathy Park in Gandey, Giridih, connecting traditional knowledge preservation with medicinal plant conservation, biodiversity protection and environmental awareness.

According to Prabhat Khabar, the conservation programme will progress through three phases. The first involves developing a digital repository of indigenous knowledge. The second focuses on publishing a book documenting traditional healers’ experiences and medicinal plants. The third aims to train young people in plant identification, conservation and documentation while exploring scientific research collaborations with academic institutions.

Rajeev Singh emphasised that preserving indigenous knowledge also requires protecting the medicinal plants and forests from which this knowledge has evolved over generations. The initiative prioritises the consent, rights and contributions of traditional knowledge holders, encouraging respectful documentation and meaningful community participation.

By connecting the wisdom of Adivasi elders with younger generations, digital technology and scientific research, the Hodopathy conservation mission seeks to protect Jharkhand’s invaluable cultural and ecological heritage.
